An Oral History Project Conducted by John Robert Lewis Scholar Sarah Ogundare

Project Description
One of my takeaways from our Alabama trip is the importance of storytelling and learning from our movement and family elders. Learning from their journeys unearths stories historians might not selectively highlight—lessons that will always be relevant (to us and to future generations). So, I chose to interview my dad and his older sister about how they view change-making, and to also blend their interviews into one continuous conversation. We explored the values they learned from immediate and extended family, the Nigerian civil war, its political and social impacts, and how it all inspires their versions of community building.
