An Oral History Project Conducted by John Robert Lewis Scholar Gideon Gruel

Project Description
Dr. Alick Isaacs is a lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a co- founder of Siach Shalom, an organization working to establish dialogues that further peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict. Dr. Isaacs and his colleagues at Siach Shalom have worked to bring religious Jews into what has largely been a secularly driven peace process. Shortly before October 7th, Siach Shalom was working to establish similar, religiously oriented dialogue between Jewish and Palestinian Muslim organizations.
In my interview, Dr. Isaacs narrates why October 7th blindsided him and his colleagues and necessitated a complete reconsideration of their process and partners in building peace. Dr. Isaacs offers an important and nuanced perspective on the role of Jewish and Muslim religionists in establishing peace in Israel and Palestine and shares his yet budding hopes for the prospects of that peace.
