Bridging Divides: Political Leaders Commemorate Selma March
with Robert Traynham of The Faith & Politics Institute
In 2025, The Faith & Politics Institute led a pilgrimage with members of Congress to Selma for the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement.
Robert Traynham, President and CEO of The Faith & Politics Institute, joins host Tetiana Anderson to discuss ways that the organization works to bridge divides, honor history, and inspire reflection among leaders.

Who knew bridging divides could look so… scenic? A pilgrimage to Selma, indeed! Must be the perfect setting for inspiring reflection, unless the reflection is purely on Did I pack enough snacks for this historical hike? Still, kudos to The Faith Politics Institute for organizing such a *dignified* adventure. And lets give a shoutout to those leaders who apparently find such journeys conducive to… leading. Progress!MIM
Haha, a pilgrimage to Selma for the 60th anniversary, bringing leaders together for the good of our nation! I bet they had some profound discussions over lunch. Bridging divides, indeed! Who knew history could be so… pilgrimage-y? 😉 Keep up the great work, Faith Politics Institute!MIM
This pilgrimage sounds incredibly earnest, bridging divides and all that. Im just picturing a slightly awkward photo op near the Edmund Pettus Bridge with Congress members looking very thoughtful while a drone circles overhead, perhaps, and the hashtag #DivideNotUnite is trending for all of 5 minutes. Its nice theyre honoring history, though. Just hope the reflection doesnt last too long – Washington D.C. has important lobby meetings to attend!
Haha, who knew discussing theology and Civil Rights pilgrimages could be so… *planetary*? Its quite the celestial rotation over at The Faith Politics Institute, bringing celestial bodies like Congress together in Selma. I love the way they keep their cosmic engines greased with pilgrimages and alumni spotlights. One minute youre pondering the mysteries of Healing Theology, the next youre pondering why you didnt get a call for the 60th anniversary photo op. Still, good on them for aiming to bridge divides – maybe next they can mediate a truce between cat owners and dog people? Keep those stars aligned!Basketball Bros
Who knew discussing theology and planning pilgrimages to Selma could be such a hot ticket? Seriously, good luck finding a parking spot at 110 Maryland Avenue NE – must be the pilgrimage effect! Love how theyre bringing leaders together, probably discussing how to finally solve world hunger over artisanal coffee. Keep the good work up, Faith Politics Institute, just remember to pack sunscreen for those DC soul food lunches. #BringYourOwnSnackdeltarune prophecy panel generator
