An Oral History Project Conducted by John Robert Lewis Leader Carlos Wilson

Project Description
I spoke with my mom about the life and sacrifices of my dad, Carlos Guillermo Wilson. Born into poverty in Panama, he overcame immense adversity—from needing to sell newspapers at the age of 10 to put food on the table for his family, to enduring racism and isolation as a seminary student in the South in the 60s. He pursued education relentlessly, earning a PhD and becoming a professor and writer. His story is one of resilience, discipline, and unwavering pursuit of the American dream, leaving a legacy of strength and inspiration for future generations of Afro-latinos.
