An Oral History Project Conducted by John Robert Lewis Leader Robert Barron-Pryce

Project Description
For my oral history project I interviewed the remarkable matriarch of my family, my grandmother, Edith. Her life story is a testament to resilience, overcoming adversity, and the pursuit of a better life. It’s my hope that her story helps humanize the immigrant journey and adds an important perspective to the narrative around migration in this country.
Born in El Salvador, her compassionate upbringing laid a foundation for her future. Immigrating to the U.S. at age 10, she adapted quickly, learning English and embracing new opportunities. After raising six children, Edith embarked on a remarkable career, ascending through male-dominated tech corporations despite discrimination.
In the interview, she defines civil rights as universal access to dignity and respect as well as the freedom to pursue aspirations, acknowledging the changing landscape for immigrants. Guided by faith, Edith emphasizes love, respect, compassion, and perseverance, encouraging future generations to embrace forgiveness and connect with God’s gifts- one another.
