JRL Program Bio: Irene Franco Rubio is an activist, writer, and community organizer of Guatemalan and Mexican descent from Phoenix, Arizona. Irene has multifaceted experience as an intersectional movement builder. From grassroots organizing in her hometown, interning for former U.S. Congresswoman Deb Haaland, organizing nationally for Michelle Obama's nonprofit When We All Vote, and other prestigious advocacy engagements, continues to advocate for historically oppressed communities at the intersection of media and activism as a catalyst for change.
